Background:
Governments around the world are changing tax policy on a regular basis.
As a result there is a need for businesses to keep their accounting
packages in line with government policy. With many of the existing accounting
packages, there is no way for the user to generate their own set of
payroll tax tables. This data is stored in data files, but the average
user is generally not computer literate enough to modify the files directly.
Presumably this functionality is not already built into these packages
in order to force users to upgrade every 12 months.
MyTaxTables is a small open source free software utility that will
allow the user to directly make basic changes to the tax rates. e.g.
Change payroll tax in the $30,000 - $40,000 tax bracket from 25% to
27%.
The initial package targeted is the MYOB® Premier 8 accounting
software and the initial was be to be able to edit a pay2myob.bin import
file for payroll tax rates. The formats of other data files from other
accounting packages will require more investigation.
The software will accept as inputs values the tax rates and salary
brackets as published by various government tax agencies. The software
will output a file that can be read by the applicable accounting package.
